Great days at the Sparkasse & VGH Cup It's over, I don't want to say done. We had great days with the A youth in the preliminary round of the SPK & VGH Cup 2020 in the Lokhalle. Now everyone knows why we have prepared ourselves so intensely for this event. Every player will be able to eat and tell about this for a long time.
It started for us shortly before the opening, because we helped the A-youth to build something in the locomotive hall. So the team was able to sniff some atmosphere in the still empty locomotive hall on Tuesday, two days before the first game.
But then it really started on Thursday, January 9th, 2020 at 9:15 p.m. First game against a professional team. It went against Eintracht Frankfurt's offspring. Incredible, but we took the lead 1-0. But that spurred Eintracht's juniors a little more and we had a little too much respect in the first game. So despite the lead, we had to give up 9: 1 in the end.
As a second highlight, the game against the youngsters from Manchester United was waiting for us at 9 p.m. on Friday evening at Prime Time. Everyone was motivated and hot to show everyone. After a great game of ours, we lost 6-1 in the end, but left our heads high and with a lot of applause. Many players will be remembered for a long time this January 10th. A day later, Saturday afternoon, it was in a full locomotive hall against the youngsters of Herta BSC. Again, we showed a good and committed performance, so that we were able to leave the square with applause and a big chest.
Unfortunately we could not make the games against the regional representatives as successful as we had planned. SV Rotenberg earned 4th place ahead of us, which was enough to move into the intermediate round. However, we scored at least one goal against every professional team and played good football.
Overall, we draw a positive conclusion, since with a few exceptions almost only players of the younger age group were used and they are already looking forward to showing their skills again in the Lokhalle next year. Not only were the great days in the locomotive hall positive, but also the preparation was special. In addition to training sessions at the IfL or in the Ballhaus, we also participated in two men's tournaments. The only downside during the tournament was the serious injury to a player who had badly injured his shoulder in a duel with the gang. For him, the second half of the season is now over. Get well soon Edi !!!
For the rest of the team and the coaching team there is now a short break before the first game of the second half of the season starts with full energy. Benjamin Link
